After feeling crummy with a cold for the first 3 weeks of 2013, for the first time this year I feel better. Went for a run up the Berkeley hills, and I’ve forgotten how inspiring and gorgeous these streets and botanicals are. As I’m running up the ivy covered hill toward the Rose Garden, exactly at my run’s half-way point, I meet 3 deer at the intersection of two quiet streets. I just stand there and look at them. And a 4th deer walks up. And I just watch them tip-toe away up the hill. When I get home I’m going to sit down at my computer and over the next few weeks I’ll be wrapping up the first client projects of 2013. This is my first year on my own as a business. It’s going to be totally new and different. Lets do this!

This year is coming to a close… and 2013 is coming a lot sooner than I think! A lot of big changes have happened for me recently - I’ve transitioned to full-time freelance design, I’ve set up a tiny studio space, and I’ve started taking steps so I can focus on my shop over the next year. Wow! It’s been wild so far and I couldn’t be more excited.

I’ve got something new to show you! Here’s a Gold Foil + Letterpress 2013 Calendar. It’s inspired by prisms - some of them are completely impossible prisms. You can buy one here in my online shop. Happy Holidays!

Just got the new book from Studio on Fire in the mail! It’s beautiful and filled with amazing letterpress work from their amazing print studio. The book’s cover is letterpressed, too. There are some designs by Studio on Fire and also some projects that they’ve printed for other people. My split fountain wedding invitation for Mariko and Mark is also in the book! We may have quickly dreamed of Nelson and Coupland before, but the folks at IDEO made it a realistic idea. But, Alice? This is still pretty abstract. Nonetheless, wow. I’d be game for any of these!

Description from Justin Fuller:

“Denver Music Company is a fictional / pop-up record store that was created as an installation for Create Denver Week in April of 2010. The project aimed to highlight the unique history of the music scene in Denver and the Front Range of Colorado. Everything was created from scratch, including the logo, the storefront, several silkscreened prints to decorate the shop, a 50-page zine, buttons, stickers and record bin labels. An interactive listening station allowed people to hear a variety of music created by Colorado artists over the years.”

The props to create this installation are really great. Everything is adorned with hand drawn typography.

“A record bin was filled with more than 150 vintage and new vinyl LPs by local artists or artists / albums that had a significant connection to the area.”

Justin silkscreened genre labels and 12” x 12” posters… Some of which were for sale during the show.

“Center Channel: A Totally Incomplete History of Colorado Music” was distributed for free in front of the store. His 50-page zine went quick (the photo of the storefront had an empty rack!)…

We’ve traversed the country – and even drove a little further than the country is wide. We started in Massachusetts, stopped at Niagara Falls, Chicago, Badlands (South Dakota), Seattle, and Portland. Now we are settled, finally, in San Francisco. I love it here.
