Inspiration: Hanna Sandin

I’m head over heels for Hanna Sandin, a 28-year-old Brooklyn based artist and graduate of Rhode Island School of Design (2003). She makes jewelry out of perfect shapes and sculpture from imperfect objects. Hanna’s mobiles have a taste of Calder and are playfully fragmented. Her website isn’t up yet, but some of her images are on http://dossierjournal.com. Take a look at her jewelry at www.sammasamma.com

An article on Hanna in Elle magazine revealed an unexpected story— Hanna’s jewelry began from a robbery.

When her apartment was burgled and all her valuables and jewelry were stolen, she began stringing materials from her studio around her neck as a method of temporary adornment.”

I love how a fluke has turned into something so beautiful and off-beat.

Hanna’s mobiles feel quick and yet alluring… I wish I could sit on the floor and watch them in person. Watch out for her website, hopefully it’ll be up soon. http://www.hannasandin.com/
