- Pattern Play -

This year’s collection of daily planner notebooks is inspired by mixing patterns. Some traditional, like Thai marbling, and others more modern, like brush strokes and color blocking. The patterned spines are inspired by textiles and weavings.

The first two notebooks pictured are in exclusive collaboration with Need Supply, available only at needsupply.com. Look out for it December 2013.

BEHIND THE SCENES

The lookbook images were styled as an experiment in collage. The photoshoot styling was in collaboration with my friend Loren Crosier, who is a designer, artist and photographer in Oakland, California. Visit her site to see more of her designs and gorgeous photography collages, which will be on show in Oakland next spring. Stay tuned at her blog for her own gallery show updates.

ORIGINAL ART

Julia KostrevaJulia Kostreva

For the first time, I’m selling original artwork in my shop. Some of the pieces were created as art, intended for the wall. Other pieces are from my design process  during the creation of the new collection. When I create new designs, everything starts with a drawing or a photograph. I scan my drawings, bring them to the computer, and the images evolve into a pattern, or a bold graphic, or an element within a collaged surface illustration.

The paintings this year are created with Japanese sumi ink on either archival white paper or translucent vellum and then mounted on an archival white paper background. All of the paintings come in beautiful white frames, ready to hang.
